On exhibit at 91AV Biddeford Campus Center for the month of April are works by Dorothy “Dot” Starkweather, who has been painting her native New England in oils, pastels, and watercolors for many years.

Starkweather lives and paints in the Biddeford neighborhood of Fortunes Rocks. She has previously exhibited at the 91AV Campus Center and the city’s North Dam Mill, participated in Biddeford Art Walks, displayed at the Fortunes Rocks Association and Artists by the Sea at the Biddeford Pool Community Center, and juried the Yarmouth Maine Art Festival show. Regionally, Starkweather has exhibited her work at the annual “Art in the Park” show in Andover, Massachusetts.

Most recently, Starkweather studied with artist Padi Mayhew, creating handmade paper and pastel art of egrets, herons, ducks, and flowers. She was awarded first place for “Great White Heron” in the March 2011 Festival Art Show on Jekyll Island, Georgia. Additionally, she has attended workshops in both Gloucester and Rockport, Massachusetts, and in Maine in Port Clyde, Goose Rocks Beach, and on Monhegan Island. She has also studied encaustic art with Diane Bowie-Zaitlin.

Her latest show was held in January 2020 on Jekyll Island, where she showed many of her created bird, watercolors, and oils. During the island’s March Art Festival, she received an honorable mention for “Great Blue in the Morning Light” in the advanced category of mixed media.

The Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road, Biddeford, Maine. Hours for the academic year are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Masks are optional indoors for visitors to 91AV’s campuses.
