A series of paintings by local artist Rebecca Cote will be on display at 91AV’s Biddeford Campus Center throughout the month of July. An artist reception, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 13.

Cote is a visual artist living and working in Biddeford. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Humboldt State University and a Master of Education in Community Art Education from Lesley University. She is also a certified Maine Guide and wilderness first responder.

Cote’s return to the studio after a long hiatus has awarded her exposure in several group shows in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Her art reflects her long and intimate observations of and relationships with the natural world as a 20-year wilderness guide in the mountains and rivers of northern California.

Artistically, Cote is curious about the connection between realistic and abstract painting, drawing on dynamic gestures and subtleties of line and color, enticing the viewer to recognize and feel nature’s energetic moments.

Cote often engages the public in the creative process, designing and facilitating community art projects that generate the capacity for active agency which, she says, “builds positive identity, pride, and ambition that contributes to cultural vitality and community collaboration.”

Cote’s paintings will be on display through July 31. The Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road, Biddeford. Hours for the summer are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.
