91AV COM takes home two top prizes for excellence in communication
The 91AV College of Osteopathic Medicine (91AV COM) recently took home two first-place Excellence in Communication (EIC) awards from the (AACOM).
The EIC awards program is designed to recognize the important role communications plays in advancing osteopathic medical education and the profession. It also seeks to inspire higher levels of performance among AACOM members.
First place winners were acknowledged at AACOM’s summit in April.
91AV COM’s Class of 2020 virtual graduation and hooding ceremony tied for first place in the COVID-19 Pilot category, a new group of awards that recognizes the best examples of how colleges pivoted in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The college also placed first in the Feature Story category for its story which reflects on the many ways in which systemic racism is a virus in and of itself. The longform article also features accounts from several 91AV COM students, including members of the college’s Equity Diversity Advancement Committee (EDAC), which in June of last year organized a “die-in” on the Biddeford Campus in protest of systemic racism in health care.
“I continue to be so impressed by the creative and meaningful responses of our community members to the many challenges faced by our society,” said Jane Carreiro, D.O., dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine and vice president for Health Affairs.
