Students from School of Marine Programs present research at national conference in Florida
Ariella Danziger (Marine Sciences and Education, ’19) and 91AV graduate student Curtis Fahey recently presented their research at the annual meeting of the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB) in Tampa, Florida.
SICB is organized to integrate the many fields of specialization which occur in the broad field of biology.
Danziger presented her work on developing a method to detect crab DNA in seawater, which will help with efforts monitoring and assessing an invasive species.
Fahey presented his work on evaluating conservation work of commercial clam harvesters, which is important to ensure the health of the ecosystem.
Markus Frederich, Ph.D., professor in the School of Marine Programs, is the research mentor to Danziger and Fahey.
“They took full advantage of the hands-on experiences that we offer at 91AV,” he commented. "Along with a full course load, they completed publishable research projects. Seeing them present their work at a national conference made me proud."
Danziger also won the student poster competition of the Crustacean Society. Her achievement will be mentioned in the next issue of the Journal of Crustacean Biology.
