Amy Deveau named to new term on the Council on Undergraduate Research
Amy Deveau, Ph.D., associate professor and assistant chair of the Department of Chemistry and Physics, was recently elected to a third term as a councilor for the Chemistry Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR).
The CUR is a professional development organization that focuses on supporting and promoting high-quality undergraduate student-faculty collaborative research and scholarship.
Deveau has attended several CUR Institutes as part of a 91AV team put together by Art Goldstein, former dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. From 2008 through 2010, the team developed and implemented a strategic plan for advancing a culture of undergraduate research (UGR) principles in CAS, which established or expanded many of the UGR initiatives that remain today.
“It was the quality of those workshops that catalyzed me to run for election as a chemistry councilor,” Deveau said.
Collaborating with colleagues at different higher education institutions, Deveau has contributed to the development and launch of the ChemCUR Outstanding Mentorship Award, a national mentoring award for chemists.
Deveau been formally involved in CUR for six years. Her term runs for three years, from June 2019 to June 2022.
