'WCSH' report features 91AV student’s internship at Scarborough Terrace
91AV senior Sarah Titcomb (HWOS, ’18) spends two days a week with residents of Scarborough Terrace, an assisted living facility for older adults.
“It's so much fun,” Titcomb says. “The residents are a riot. They're all so different, with their own personalities.”
Her internship at the facility was recently featured in a news report on .
Titcomb spends most of her time there engaged in activities with the residents -- everything from playing the piano to friendly games of bean bag toss.
“In school we've learned so much about social participation and how important it is for wellness in older adults,” she explains. “Taking what I’ve learned and incorporating it into what I do at Scarborough Terrace has just been super beneficial.”
It’s clear from the reaction of residents that Sarah’s efforts are greatly appreciated.
“We really enjoy her,” one resident told WCSH. “She’s a delightful person.”
Titcomb is planning for a career in occupational therapy after she graduates this year. She says the experience gained through the internship will be an asset to her professionally.
“To be able to actually get hands on experience within this population has been helpful all around,” she states.
