COM Dean Jane Carreiro appointed chair of taskforce by Osteopathic International Alliance
Jane E Carreiro D.O., vice president for Health Affairs and dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, was recognized for her leadership and service to the global osteopathic community at the annual assembly of the Osteopathic International Alliance (OIA), the leading organization for the advancement and unity of the global osteopathic profession. The assembly was held September 28-29 in Dubai.
The OIA Board of Directors appointed Carreiro chair of the Benchmarks in Practice of Osteopathy Taskforce, an OIA partner project with the World Health Organization. The taskforce’s goal is to describe models of training for trainees with different backgrounds and to reflect what the community of osteopathic practitioners deems to be reasonable practice when training others in the methods of osteopathic medicine.
The OIA was launched in 2003 to unify osteopathic medicine by connecting schools, regulatory bodies, and regional, national, and multi-country groups. It is the primary international organization advocating for high-quality osteopathic health care and is a leading representative of osteopathic clinicians and physicians worldwide, representing 20 countries on five continents. Carreiro is past chairman of the OIA Board of Directors.
