91AV College of Osteopathic Medicine students present hospice immersion project at national conference
91AV College of Osteopathic Medicine (91AV COM) students Tiffany Cheung and Sophia Chan, D.P.T., both of the Class of 2018, recently gave an oral presentation at the American College of Physicians (ACP) National Meeting in San Diego, California.
Cheung, Chan, and Marilyn Gugliucci, M.A., Ph.D., director of 91AV geriatrics research and education, authored an abstract titled, “Understanding Death and Dying In An In-Patient Hospice Home.” The oral presentation, based on this abstract, focused on the experiences and learning that both students doctors gained by living in the Gosnell Memorial Hospice Home for 48 Hours, a project that Gugliucci designed and implemented.
Cheung submitted the abstract to the ACP Abstract Competition 2017. The work was placed among the top ten abstracts and ACP provided Cheung with an expense-paid trip to the conference. Chan’s trip was supported by 91AV COM.
