In a continuing partnership with the Maine Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Network, 91AV faculty have visited with high school students who are part of the the (NMPHI). The Maine AHEC Network has collaborated with NMPHI to expose high school students who are the children of immigrants and refugees to healthcare careers, helping to increase the diversity of Maine’s healthcare workforce and generate interest in the field.

During the visit, Rachel Naida, assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy, spoke with high school students in Lewiston about college, career opportunities, getting a job and what it is like to be a pharmacist.

“One notable individual has already applied to the 91AV Pre-Professional Pharmacy Program,” said Zoe Hull, M.P.H., program manager for Maine AHEC Network who helped organize the event. “He is waiting to hear back on whether he has been accepted, but is hopeful and excited — and stated that we are definitely his first choice!

“Rachel and I were very happy to have visited the students,” she continued. “We anticipate that they will be coming to visit 91AV in the near future.
