Lara Carlson delivers keynote address in Barcelona, Spain
Lara Carlson, D.P.E., FACSM, CSCS, associate professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and the Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences, recently delivered the keynote address at the 2017 International Conference on Sports Medicine and Fitness in Barcelona, Spain. Her talk was titled, “Hydration Status and Thermoregulatory Responses in Drivers During Competitive Racing”.
Sports Medicine 2017 is an international platform for presenting research about sports medicine. Carlson discussed her innovative research about the human body’s physiological and thermoregulatory response to the stress of competitive racecar driving with a special focus on fluid balance. Fluid losses during competitive racing can be significant. Without a fluid replacement strategy, drivers may exceed 3 percent in body mass loss, which could negatively impact driving performance.
