‘Portland Press Herald’ publishes review of Art Gallery’s ‘Portraits of the Artist’
The January 3, 2016 issue of the Portland Press Herald featured a review of the 91AV Art Gallery’s exhibition “Portraits of the Artist,” claiming that it accomplishes “something impressive.”
According to the article, the exhibition displays “excellent images of and by important artists” with works by Berenice Abbott, Peter Ralston, George Daniell, Todd Webb, Arnold Newman, Jack Montgomery and David Etnier being highlighted in the review.
“Certain artists bubble up to the fore,” states the author of the review, Daniel Kany, “… an idea pleasantly set into motion by a pair of contrasting portraits of Joyce that greet the entering audience.”
According to Kany, the 1941 image of Yasuo Kuniyoshi by Arnold Newman “alone is worth the visit.”
