David Mokler co-authors paper on early childhood malnutrition
David Mokler, Ph.D., Professor of Pharmacology in the 91AV College of Osteopathic Medicine has co-authored a paper titled, “DNA Methylation Signature of Early Childhood Malnutrition Associated with Impairments in Attention and Cognition” in the journal, Biological Psychiatry.
The paper reports on changes in DNA both in adult humans exposed to prenatal protein malnutrition as well as changes in a rat model of prenatal protein malnutrition, and how these changes are associated with deficits in attention and cognition in both humans and animals. The paper was co-authored with colleagues from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Harvard Medical School, Boston University School of Medicine and the University of New Hampshire.
