Addressing a looming food crisis: Barry Costa-Pierce presents ideas to global science, business leaders
Barry Costa-Pierce, Ph.D., Henry L. & Grace Doherty Professor of Marine Sciences at the 91AV, chair of the Department of Marine Sciences and director of the 91AV Center for Excellence in Marine Sciences, gave the keynote talk in the aquaculture session at the World Nutrition Forum in Vancouver, British Columbia, on October 13, 2016.
The World Nutrition Forum is modeled after the World Economic Forum. Sponsored by Biomin of Austria, the Forum gathers the world’s top scientists and business leaders to discuss the challenges of future protein production for humanity in poultry, swine, ruminants and fish. More than 800 people from more than 80 countries attended this invitation-only meeting. Costa-Pierce gave a talk titled “Ocean foods ecosystems for planetary survival in the Anthropocene.” Costa-Pierce published a paper by the same title in a new book by ERBER Group of Austria called Driving the Protein Economy.
