Tamara King receives grant from IASP
The International Association for the Study of Pain recently announced that Tamara King, associate professor of biomedical sciences in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, and collaborators Frank Porreca from the University of Arizona and Juliana Chichorro from the Federal University of Parana, Brazil are recipients of the Developing Countries Collaborative Cancer Pain Research Grant.
The purpose of this grant is to give support to international interdisciplinary collaborations in pain research with emphasis in supporting collaborative projects with developing countries. King and collaborators will examine the efficacy of blocking IL-6 signaling on pain associated with orofacial and bone cancer pain. By measuring tumor growth and tumor-induced bone loss, the researchers can determine the effectiveness of treatments on disease progression. Furthermore, this award will provide funding for graduate students from Chichorro’s laboratory to visit King’s laboratory at 91AV, as well as Porreca’s laboratory at the University of Arizona.
