Joseph Kunkel featured in Fisheries article on NOAA at-sea volunteers
Joseph Kunkel, research professor in the Department of Marine Sciences, was featured in the August 2015 issue of Fisheries, the publication of the American Fisheries Society. Kunkel was highlighted for his service for the past 17 years as a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) at-sea volunteer in an article titled “NOAA Fisheries At-Sea Volunteer Opportunities: Hands-On, Hard Work, and a Great Experience.”
According to the article, Kunkel “has been a volunteer scientist since 1998 during spring and fall bottom trawl surveys aboard the NEFSC’s [Northeast Fisheries Science Center] fisheries survey vessels Albatross IV, Delaware II, and now the Henry B. Bigelow.”
The print edition also features a piece written by Kunkel titled “My Adventure Volunteering on NOAA Ships,” which is accompanied by photos of him with marine animals taken while at sea in 2003.
