'Courier' article features new 91AV group to fight local hunger
On April 2, 2015, the Courier published an article on the creation of the 91AV Hunger Initiative, a chapter of the national Food Recovery Network.
According to the article, Samantha Cottone, a junior majoring in Health, Wellness and Occupational Studies, spearheaded the founding of the chapter after learning about the extent of poverty and hunger in the Biddeford area.
Through the initiative, staff members of Sodexo, the University’s dining services provider, collect unused food, and student volunteers deliver it to the Bon Appetit community meal program three times per week.
The article also notes that students involved with the program intend to use 91AV’s community garden to grow produce for local food banks over the summer.
