Art Gallery’s “A Gateless Garden” featured in ‘Maine Sunday Telegram’
The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram published an article in the January 25, 2015 issue that features the current exhibition at 91AV’s Portland Art Gallery, "A Gateless Garden: Quotes by Maine Women Writers."
The article discusses the Maine Photo Project, a year-long statewide effort by dozens of Maine museums, historical societies, libraries and galleries in Maine to help people appreciate the state as the subject of photography.
The article features "A Gateless Garden" as one of ten of the most "interesting" shows around the state.
Art Gallery director Anne Zill noted that the timing of the Maine Photo Project could not be better. "In some ways, I think photography in Maine today is what painting was in Maine 100 years ago," she stated. "It’s just bursting wide open. We are revisiting old, historic photographic techniques and discovering new ones… The breadth of creativity in the photographic arts is very exciting right now."
