Francesca McCaffrey receives 2014 Outstanding Student Award
Francesca McCaffrey received the 2014 Outstanding Student Award during this year's Hooding Ceremony for the Westbrook College of Health Professions.
As a current student in 91AV's College of Osteopathic Medicine and a new graduate of the Master of Public Health program, McCaffrey recognizes the strong connection between medicine and public health and has a desire to be an effective practitioner for both patients and the community.
According to Jennifer Gunderman-King, M.P.H., assistant lecturer in the School of Community and Population Health, McCaffrey, throughout her coursework, proved to be an excellent student who strengthened her skills not only in public health but also in writing, critical thinking and leadership.
For her practical experience, McCaffrey developed a breastfeeding toolkit for early childcare and education sites. She took ownership of this project and produced a meaningful tool that has been shared with sites throughout Midcoast Maine. Furthermore, the toolkit has become a model for other statewide initiatives.
When discussing her future plans, McCaffrey voices excitement at the prospect of combining the expertise gained through her two degrees.
