Dora Mills interviewed by ‘Portland Press Herald’ on public hepatitis exposure at Portland restaurant
Dora Anne Mills, M.D., M.P.H., vice president for Clinical Affairs, was interviewed by the Portland Press Herald for an October 31, 2014 article on a recent Portland, Maine, restaurant food worker’s confirmed case of hepatitis A.
While a spokesman for the Maine Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported that the name of the restaurant would be not identified, as no public benefit would result from the release, Mills, who served as the Maine CDC director from 1996 to 2011, said that "historically" the agency has released the location where hepatitis A exposure has occurred as a protective measure for those who may still be at risk.
"Sometimes you wouldn’t know what was wrong with you, and two months later you find out it’s hepatitis," Mills said. "If you can’t identify everyone at risk, then you should release the name of the restaurant," stated Mills.
