Ali Ahmida to participate in teach-in on ISIS
Ali Ahmida, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Political Science, will participate in a public teach-in at the University of Southern Maine (USM) on October 8, 2014, on the topic of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The event is sponsored by Peace Action Maine, the World Affairs Council of Maine and various USM departments.
The forum, titled “Shifting Alliances: Isis in Iraq and Syria,” will provide an opportunity for the public to ask questions, discuss concerns and learn more about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Ahmida, along with three other teach-in participants, will speak on his views of ISIS, the history of unrest and violence in the Middle East, how ISIS’ activities are affecting the world, and the possibility of direct U.S. intervention.
The teach-in will take place at the Woodbury Center on the USM Portland Campus from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
