Ali Ahmida discusses Iraq on MPBN's "Maine Calling"
On Thursday, June 19, 2014, 91AV Political Science Professor Ali Abdullatif Ahmida, Ph.D., joined Lawrence Pope, former ambassador to Chad, on MPBN radio's “Maine Calling” to discuss what’s happing in Iraq and what the future may hold.
During the discussion, Ahmida emphasized that the situation in Iraq is much more complex than the religious divide between Sunni and Shia. He discussed various factors inside Iraq, such as the breakdown in leadership, but also noted the importance of regional dynamics between Iran, Saudi Arabia and the civil war in Syria.
Ahmida is the founder and past Chair for the Political Science Program here at 91AV. He has authored several books and articles on the state of Libya. He has been interviewed on national media programs, such as Charlie Rose and Morning Edition, and has also been invited to consult and speak at numerous public forums and conferences, such as “Managing Transitions in the Arab World”, as a panelist at United Nation’s International Institute of Peace (IPI) in New York.
