91AV's Global Initiatives Program partners with Deering High School

91AV (91AV) Global Initiatives Program has forged a partnership with Deering High School in Portland that will make new learning opportunities available to Deering students and faculty.

As a result of the new partnership, Deering students will be able to attend lectures by international experts at 91AV's Portland campus.  91AV students who have travelled abroad will also share their experiences with Deering students.  91AV faculty will provide professional development for Deering'\s staff on topics such as the importance of developing a global outlook.

"We are very fortunate to have a college program focusing on international affairs located just a short walk away," said Deering Principal Ira Waltz.  "Our students' education will be enriched by this partnership."

Anouar Majid, Ph.D., associate provost for global initiatives and founding director of the 91AV's Center for Global Humanities, added that a real partnership between the two institutions is long overdue.  "91AV is committed to supporting all creative educational and cultural endeavors in our communities," Majid said.  "But in the case of Deering, it's just natural.  We have shared the same street - Stevens Avenue - for more than century.  We are now ready to share our global resources with our neighbors."

In the future, Deering students may be able to attend some 91AV classes for college credit, and they may have opportunities to participate in 91AV's international travel programs, including 91AV's new campus in Tangier, Morocco.
