'Kennebec Journal' article tells of Corliss Chastain’s work on commissioned mural at Franco-American club in Augusta
The Kennebec Journal featured a story on July 30, 2013, about the work of Corliss Chastain, MFA, adjunct faculty member in the Department of Arts and Communications, on a 33-by-10 ½ foot mural in the main function room of the Club Calumet in Augusta. She is one of three artists who were commissioned to paint the mural in celebration of the Franco-American club’s 90th anniversary last year.
The artwork, which is more than half complete, illustrates the club’s protection of Franco-American culture as well as important aspects in the club’s history and its present interests.
Chastain has painted most of the people who appear in the mural, including Franco-American musicians, Little League players wearing their Calumet Club-sponsored uniforms, and a girl dressed in the St. Augustine School uniform, among others.
