91AV's Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center featured in Down East
The 91AV's Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center (MARC) is the part of the focus of a story titled "Rescue Me: Animal Rehabilitators Band Together to Care for the Largest Seal Population on the East Coast."
The story examines the close cooperation that has developed during the last several years of tough economic times among organizations and agencies involved in rescuing and rehabilitating sick and injured seals in Maine and New England. MARC, which has a mission of rehabilitation and research, works closely with state and federal agencies and with Marine Mammals of Maine, a recently formed organization that provides response and assistance for stranded marine animals. Both are engaged cooperatively in education about marine mammals and the environment.
The story includes photos of MARC's operations and interviews with Keith Matassa, marine animal rehabilitation coordinator, and Asheley Simpson, animal care and laboratory technician.
