Thomas McLaughlin's column on the needs of the mentally ill published by Press Herald
The Dec. 19, 2012 Portland Press Herald published a column by Thomas Chalmers McLaughlin, Ph.D., 91AV associate professor and co-director for the Social Work Center for Research and Evaluation, who wrote about cuts in support access for the mentally ill and the issues of their unmet needs in Maine and the nation.
"In the wake of the horror of what occurred in Newtown, Conn., we, as a nation, have been forced to revisit the concept of mental illness and violence. ... While the national debate may focus on gun control and gun violence - all important issues - the larger issue is how we, as a nation, treat the concept of mental illness."
