James Sulikowski quoted in Press Herald on Wells Beach shark scare
The Portland Press Herald quoted James Sulikowski, Ph.D., 91AV assistant professor of marine sciences, in a Aug. 6, 2012 story about a shark scare that occurred at Wells Beach on Labor Day. The species that was actually sighted was an ocean sunfish.
Sulikowski said ocean sunfish aren't the primary food source for any animal, and they don't make good eating for people. "The flesh and bone of that fish is super soft and mushy - spongy is a good word for it. ... They kind of look like a sick and dying animal flailing at the surface." .
