COM faculty member Alicia Smilowicz recognized with Forty Under 40 award
Alicia Smilowicz, DO, associate clinical professor, 91AV College of Osteopathic Medicine, has been recognized by Maine Today Media as a 2012 "Forty Under 40" award winner.
Forty Under 40 is an award, according to Maine Medic Today, designed to recognize talented individuals in Maine - under the age of 40 - who are making a difference. They are the emerging generation of leaders who are bound to make a memorable mark in the business community and beyond. The awards were presented May 25, 2012.
In announcing the awards, Maine Media Today explained that Smilowicz is medical director of HealthCalls, LLC. In the past 12-18 months, she also completed a fellowship for the American Academy of Osteopathy. There are only 70 AAO fellows in the U.S., and Alicia, at 38, is the youngest, having earned the honor on her first attempt.
“As a clinical professor, she is part of the education of at least 300 students yearly. The heartfelt nature that she brings to education, and the enthusiasm for her field, ignites long-term mentoring relationships with medical students. ... Her compassionate nature does not allow her to close her practice at 5 o’clock. She is extremely concerned about her patients as a whole, which means you will often see her raking leaves, preparing dinners and providing social support outside of her medical office.”
