Vernon Moore a finalist for Bank of Maine's Leadership and Luminaries Award
The Bank of Maine has named Vernon L. Moore, EdD, MSW, president of the board of directors at Counseling Services Inc. (CSI) and 91AV professor of social work, as one of five finalists for its 2011 Leadership and Luminaries Award. An independent committee appointed by the bank selected the finalists. Moore has been on the board of CSI, a nonprofit community mental health agency based in Saco, for more than a decade, and has served as its president for more than half of his tenure.
Moore is being lauded for his work as a university faculty member, social worker, consultant, trainer, evaluator and senior administrator in a wide range of community mental health and residential settings. In its nomination of Moore for the award, CSI CEO Jeannine Lepitre stated, “Vernon takes everything to a higher level. He challenges everything and everyone: systems, people, ideas....He challenges all of us to look beyond ourselves and our organizations, to not think small, to rise to a larger vision.”
The grand prize winner, who will be announced on Dec. 1 at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport, will receive $10,000 on behalf of his or her organization; the remaining finalists will each receive $2,500.
