Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences' summer internship program featured in Kennebunkpost blog
The published a blog on July 28, 2011 on the 91AV Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences' summer internship program. The program is introducing seven Maine students to the connection between medicine, research and entrepreneurship. The story focused on Cheverus High School senior Allison Saunders of Saco.
The program has allowed Saunders to meet and work with “incredible” scientists and learn more about what a future in the field will be like, she said.
Another intern, Evan Shuris, a 17-year-old senior at Kennebunk High School, said the program allows him to experience a new aspect of science while debating what he wants to do in the future.
The program was developed under the leadership of Ed Bilsky, Ph.D., director of the center and professor of pharmacology in 91AVCOM. Bilsky said the 11-week program will show interns how discoveries made in the university’s laboratories are being developed as potential treatments for neurological and psychiatric disorders.
Interns in the photo at right are Taylor Piers, Hannah Clarke, Hannah Doss, Danielle Rafferty, Allison Saunders, and Evan Shuris.
