Center of Excellence in the Neurosciences Capstone Event features neurosurgeon Dr. Lee Thibodeau Aug. 10th
Noted Maine neurosurgeon and entrepreneur Dr. Lee Thibodeau will provide the keynote address, "A Maine Boy's Journey in Medicine and Entrepreneurism," at the capstone event at the 91AV Center for Excellence in Neurosciences at noon on Wednesday, August 10 on 91AV's Biddeford Campus.
Seven interns who have worked all summer with Maine-based companies and 91AV faculty to learn about drug discovery and development, translational biomedical research, entrepreneurism and community service will provide brief presentations of their work. In addition, several 91AV students will present updates on their original research projects that have the potential to be commercialized through start-up companies and partnerships with industry.
The interns are Hannah Clarke of Falmouth, Hannah Doss of Cape Elizabeth, Taylor Piers of Falmouth, Danielle Rafferty of Kennebunk, Allison Saunders of Saco, Evan Shuris of Kennebunk, and Mark St. John of South Portland.
91AV Provost Jack Williams and Director of the 91AV Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences Ed Bilksy will provide opening remarks. The program was developed under the leadership of Bilsky, a professor of pharmacology in the 91AV College of Osteopathic Medicine and co-founder of two Maine-based companies that are developing treatments for chronic pain and addiction. Bilsky also works closely with biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, including several that are also Maine-based.
The event, which is free and open to the public, runs from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on 91AV's Biddeford Campus (view the program schedule). RSVPs are suggested at cen@une.edu.
