91AV students recognized at regional conference
On November 19, 2010, three 91AV Students were recognized as award winners at the Association of College Unions International Region I Conference at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
Ashley Walley, a senior elementary education major from Redondo Beach, CA was awarded the region’s most prestigious student award, the 2010 College Union and Campus Life Role Model Award. This award is given to a student who best exemplifies outstanding achievement in the college union/ student activities field and best exemplifies the ideals of ‘The Role of the College Union’ statement. Ashley was the only winner from the Region for 2010, which is made up of all institutions in New England, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
Ashley was recognized for her outstanding leadership and dedication to campus life at 91AV through her roles as student involvement intern in the Office of Campus Life, president of the Activities Program Board, intern in the Judicial Affairs Office, orientation leader, and several past involvements. Ashley was also selected to be a part of the conference planning team last spring and helped plan and administer the undergraduate leadership experience for over 100 undergraduate students who attended the conference.
Ashley, along with senior business major, Ahmed Elkady, and Tim St. John, assistant director of campus life & orientation, were selected to present at the conference. Their presentation, “Para-Professional Roles for Undergraduate Students,” highlighted their unique student involvement internship position at 91AV.
Also recognized at the conference were Briana Chu, junior elementary education major and Codi Riley, sophomore business major, for their idea exchange entry. The idea exchange is an avenue for each institution represented at the conference to share ideas about programming, their student union or campus center, and their university as a whole. This year’s conference theme was “rhode trip,” and students and staff were asked to theme their idea exchange displays accordingly. Briana and Codi won “most informative” for their display of “rhode trip destination: the 91AV” which highlighted major unique aspects about the Biddeford Campus and the programs offered. Codi was also nominated for the region’s Student Employee of the Year Award for her hard work and dedication as a building manager/event support team manager in the Campus Center.
