91AV Saco River Esturine research highlighted by Journal Tribune story
A story in the Sept. 11-12, 2010 Journal Tribune (Biddeford) featured a five-year research project designed to better understand and protect the Saco River Estuary. The project is part of the Maine Sustainabilty Solutions Initiative and is being conducted by an interdisciplinary team from 91AV, which includes the departments of Environmental Studies, Biology, Marine Sciences and Business Administation and Communications, along with representatives of the Wells National Esturine Research Reserve. Christine Feurt, Ph.D., (photo right) director of 91AV's Center for Sustainable Communities, discussed research conducted this past summer by Pamela Morgan, Ph.D.,associate professor of the Department of Environmental Studies, who identified 63 species of plants in the estuary, including rare varieties such as spongy arrowhead and parker's pipewort.
