Jeff Nevers featured in "Good Ideas" section of Campus Career Counselor
Jeff Nevers, recruiting specialist in Career Services, was featured in the "Good Ideas" section in the most recent edition of the nationally distributed Campus Career Counselor for his Senior Syllabus, a time line designed to guide seniors making the transition academics to professional endeavors.
Nevers created the month-by-month job search to-do list after observing that students express they are overwhelmed with the process. “The theory behind the syllabus is to engage students with small, doable, daily job search goals as opposed to giant, unreachable ones that will scare them away,” he states.
Nevers’s tool features four specific goals, with deadlines, for students to pursue as the academic year unfolds - for example, a polished and perfect resume that is ready by Thanksgiving break and a polished, practice cover letter that is ready by semester’s end.
Since the story was published, the syllabus has generated interest from institutions in Vermont, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Texas. “Obviously we’d like to see students in our office long before their senior year, but for the ones who suddenly realize their lives are about to change, this is a good bridge to get them to the other side,” Nevers stated.
