British Scholar names Eric Zuelow's book 'Making Ireland Irish' Book of the Month
, an scholarly organization based at the University of Texas-Austin, selected Eric Zuelow's recent book, Making Ireland Irish: Tourism and National Identity since the Irish Civil War, Book of the Month for May-June 2010. Zuelow, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of history. British Scholar reviewer Ellen Furlough, University of Kentucky, writes: "The book is richly documented, drawing upon Irish archives, published primary sources, film and radio transcripts, interviews, regional and national publications, and foreign press reports. The book provides a careful analysis of how Ireland’s nascent tourism industry became a key sector of national importance and then promoted tourism as a state project.... Zuelow’s claim for tourism development as a significant element in the creation of Ireland’s national identity proves convincing."
In May 2010, The American Conference for Irish Studies (ACIS) awarded the 2009 James S. Donnelly, Sr. Prize for Books on History and the Social Sciences to Zuelow for Making Ireland Irish. More ...
