Recyclemania
From February 6th until April 2nd, 91AV will be involved in the Waste Minimization competition of RecycleMania. Started between two Ohio universities in 2001, RecycleMania has grown to include over 600 colleges and universities in the U.S. 91AV began it’s involvement in the Benchmark Division last year as a Tangible Action under the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). Involvement in the Waste Minimization competition essentially lowers 91AV’s carbon footprint and counts as a necessary initiative as outlined in the ACUPCC.
The Waste Minimization competition involves reducing the amount of all waste and recyclable products hauled off campus. This includes all trash, plastics, bottles, cans, paper, cardboard, metal, etc. Members of the student environmental group, Earth’s ECO, as well as work study students and members of the Environmental Interest Pod, will be monitoring the amount of waste hauled off campus and will be encouraging students, faculty, and staff to reduce the amount of waste they throw out. The best way for everyone to assist in this competition is to reduce how much they throw out, reuse what they can whenever they can, and ultimately buy less.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please e-mail Ryan Kingston, President of Earth’s ECO, at rkingston@une.edu, and thank you for your involvement.
