For us, it’s “The American Dream.” For the Russians, the quality that they think best defines them is Russkaia Dusha, “The Russian Soul.” But today, with a Big Mac on the tray and rap music in the earphones, what is happening to the “Russian Soul?” This seminar will examine current efforts to reassert “Russianness” in Russia. Topics include the Eurasian, Nationalist, and Cosmist movements, and the nostalgia for Stalinism.
